Pain Management

CHILDREN AND ADULTS OVER 55 WILL TAKE HALF OF RECOMMENDED ADULT DOSAGES. *If a history of ulcers or allergy to ibuprofen/Advil exists, DO NOT TAKE. Consult with Dr. Tiernan.

Following surgery you will be given a prescription for pain medication to help control any post operative discomfort you may experience. We also have pain medications available in office for direct purchase. You may alternate Advil or ibuprofen with the pain medications to manage the post operative pain.

Start with 4 Advil after the soup broth. If no stomach upset occurs, you may progress to more substantial soft foods such as yogurt, mashed potatoes, etc. and start the narcotic pain medication 2-4 hours after the Advil. You may then alternate by giving 2 Advil and then 2 hours later 1 narcotic pain pill and alternating these throughout the day. If you have any questions, please refer to the post op instruction booklet given at the appointment or call the office for further instructions.
